Northeast JSA Events

The Northeast State of the Junior State of America hosts a number of events throughout the school year–three overnight conventions, as well as two one-day regionals in each region.

  • Fall State: Student participants discuss a range of current issues through debates and other activities.
  • Winter Congress: The NES's annual congressional simulation, in Washington, DC. Students submit bills and advocate for their passage, as well as visiting Capitol Hill to meet and question national political leaders, journalists, and scholars.
  • Spring State: Home to the annual NES elections, when the following year's student leadership is democratically elected.
  • Regionals: The ECR and the NER also each hold two one-day regionals, one in fall and one in spring.

A Final Goodbye from Your Governor
Written by SooJin Kim

Dear JSAers,

I can’t believe that Spring State is already behind us. It was an incredible weekend and I cannot thank you enough for the happy JSA ending for me. The elections were thrilling, debates were filled with energy, and the dance was… unrated. Although I was excited that I would see some of you again in May, I am deeply upset that we had no choice but to cancel the Debate Wars.

For the seniors, I hope you all had an unbelievable JSA experience like I did. As we part in our own directions, we will take what we have learned from each other and utilize them to reach success in our future. As for the rest of you, it is not too late to apply for cabinet even if you are a junior. Everybody can help in any ways, so just get yourself actively involved! If you have any questions about joining the cabinet for next year, please contact your next year’s Governor Alex Speiser at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it

Spring State 2008
Written by Jason Katz
Monday, 10 March 2008

Dearest JSAers,

As you could feel in the arriving warmer weather, spring fast approaches.  With the emergence of spring arrives Spring State, the time to experience the last JSA convention of the year.  As it is the last state event, elections are held to supply next year with new leaders with new ideas.

I urge you to get involved in these elections, on the left side of this site, there are links with entries from all the candidates.  Speak to the candidates, get involved in their campaigns, and learn about their new ideas, ideas that will hopefully improve JSA in years to come.

This year is especially important, as it is an election year.  This year we will have the opportunity to determine the route the country takes in the coming years.  At Spring State we will have the opportunity to have a say in the direction JSA takes from now on.  Please stay active, remain respectful, and listen to what everyone has to say to build a better JSA.

Additionally, if you are going to turn 18 before November 4th, remember to register to vote.  At the top of this site, under the chapters tab, click on activism, and from there we offer a link to download voter registration forms.

Sincerely Yours,

Jason Katz
NES Lieutenant Governor
